Hermit Publishing was launched to fill a gap in the South African book market for concise, informative, convenient and affordable pocket guides on the flora & fauna of Southern Africa.
As such, we can do things differently.
For too long, authors have received an average of just 4% in royalties.
Authors have always felt grateful for any publishing deal they are offered.
It can take years to write a book, yet authors never feel like the client.
We allow Authors to have more say in their book.
We do our best to see if there is a way to publisher your book, even when you have been rejected by other publishers.
Some subjects don't sell thousands of copies, but that doesn't me a manuscript should be rejected.
The author owns the copyright on the text and images (unless the images have been sourced from a third party.
The author can decide how many books to print on each print run. Keep in mind that the unit cost per book will go up or down depending on the print run size. goes down the fewer the books.
The author can then decide whether to sell them privately to bookshops or through a distributor (yes, we can arrange that too!)
Because the author only pays the pre-production costs on each print run, they can revise an edition as many times as they like, when they like.
The author receives 100% of the 'post-production' royalties from the sale of the book (RRP)
Although the sale price of the book (RRP) is usually dictated by the print cost of the book run, the author can make as much or as little profit as they wish.
We have launched the Sunbird Series with the Blue Books.
